Salvage

[aquatic_light]

There's an utter mess scattered over Washed Up Beach today, and a few people who seem to be trying to clean it up. Since the weather in the Nexus is always warm enough to go swimming (except when it isn't) there's also one family already who arrived with a picnic basket and found the beach just isn't suitable for that today. Care to have a look?

(This continues just after this scene. Feel free to talk to anyone there if you want, or just walk up and start poking around. I just ask that no one successfully walk off with any critical parts as there are plans to put that back together. XD )

[Aw, Dee feels a bit bad] Okay then. We'll have to come back when it's a little warmer out.

It promises, my love?

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee smiles] Yeah, I promise. [she just really hopes the water's a little warmer next time]

Smeagol isss glad.

[dee_lorean81]

I'm glad too. [Dee wiggles her toes in the soft sand at the edge of the surf] And hey -- we could build a sand castle together.

[lastest_ringbearer]

Jussst what be that, my love?

[dee_lorean81]

It's when you make a castle out of sand -- might be quicker to just show you. [she heads for slightly drier ground and starts heaping sand up in a big pile]

[lastest_ringbearer]

*He flops onto his belly and watches, legs kicking idly.*

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee continues heaping for a bit, then starts shaping the pile into a rough square shape with her hands, patting down the sides and packing all the sand tightly together]

*Smeagol doesn't really help much, but he's willing to try.*

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee looks over as she finishes up her base] Okay, so this is the main castle. . .and you can make towers like this. [she scoops up some sloppy wet sand and lets it drip through her fingers onto one of the corners, forming a cone of sand]

[lastest_ringbearer]

*He makes one with elaborate care.*

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee grins as she drips some more sand onto her tower] That's great! Not hard at all, huh?

[lastest_ringbearer]

Not apt to lassst, though.

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee shakes her head] Nope -- the tide or the wind or something will get it eventually. But it's still fun to create. [she finds a handy rock and uses it to start carving windows in the main body of the castle]

Why do it if it won't lassst, my love?

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee looks a bit thoughtful] Because. . .it's still fun to do? Even if it doesn't last forever, it'll be here for a little while. You still made a mark. And it's better than just sitting around bored, right?

[lastest_ringbearer]

Making a mark . . . Smeagol's done that.

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee, carving a big pair of double doors into the front of the castle] So have I -- but in a way that a lot of people wouldn't notice. But it was still worth it. [The universe certainly doesn't seem a worse place from one version of Marty McFly having a better family, or one version of Emmett Brown marrying a woman from the 1800s.]

It often doesssn't feel worth the effort. Life be painful.

[Dee pauses, frowning over at him] Well, yeah, but -- not always. The bad stuff ends eventually.

[lastest_ringbearer]

True. And then we swim and fish, yesss?

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee smiles again] Yeah -- once it's warm enough for me and my puny human body. Though you'll have to show me how it is you fish.

[lastest_ringbearer]

Jussst have to grab them! *Easy for him to say . . .*

[Dee looks at him, then at her hand] Aren't they usually slippery though?
