Salvage

[aquatic_light]

There's an utter mess scattered over Washed Up Beach today, and a few people who seem to be trying to clean it up. Since the weather in the Nexus is always warm enough to go swimming (except when it isn't) there's also one family already who arrived with a picnic basket and found the beach just isn't suitable for that today. Care to have a look?

(This continues just after this scene. Feel free to talk to anyone there if you want, or just walk up and start poking around. I just ask that no one successfully walk off with any critical parts as there are plans to put that back together. XD )

*He makes one with elaborate care.*

[Dee grins as she drips some more sand onto her tower] That's great! Not hard at all, huh?

Not apt to lassst, though.

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee shakes her head] Nope -- the tide or the wind or something will get it eventually. But it's still fun to create. [she finds a handy rock and uses it to start carving windows in the main body of the castle]

Why do it if it won't lassst, my love?

[Dee looks a bit thoughtful] Because. . .it's still fun to do? Even if it doesn't last forever, it'll be here for a little while. You still made a mark. And it's better than just sitting around bored, right?

[lastest_ringbearer]

Making a mark . . . Smeagol's done that.

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee, carving a big pair of double doors into the front of the castle] So have I -- but in a way that a lot of people wouldn't notice. But it was still worth it. [The universe certainly doesn't seem a worse place from one version of Marty McFly having a better family, or one version of Emmett Brown marrying a woman from the 1800s.]

It often doesssn't feel worth the effort. Life be painful.

[Dee pauses, frowning over at him] Well, yeah, but -- not always. The bad stuff ends eventually.

[lastest_ringbearer]

True. And then we swim and fish, yesss?

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee smiles again] Yeah -- once it's warm enough for me and my puny human body. Though you'll have to show me how it is you fish.

[lastest_ringbearer]

Jussst have to grab them! *Easy for him to say . . .*

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee looks at him, then at her hand] Aren't they usually slippery though?

[lastest_ringbearer]

*He nods.* Get them by the gills we does, and bites them.

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee opens her mouth wide, showing off her teeth] Yeah, not sure how well that will work for me. Maybe I can just herd 'em towards you.

[lastest_ringbearer]

We'll take that.

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee giggles] Good. I'll do my best to be a good -- fish-herder, I suppose.

[lastest_ringbearer]

*He nods and looks for a good spot to catch them.*

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee has a moment where she wants to protest -- she thought they were waiting until it was warmer? -- but then sighs and gets up anyway. He didn't seem super-interested in the sand castle, and as long as she doesn't have to wade in too deep. . .]

*He gets a bit distracted at the thought of fish. It's the only joy he had for a very long time.*

[Dee can't blame him -- she doesn't know much about the Lord of the Rings, just bits here and there she's picked up living with Marty and Doc, but she's learned enough to know Gollum had a rough life. She'll let him take his joy where he can]

*Which he does, and rather well.*

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee does what she can to help him -- mostly in the form of getting in the way of any fish who try to escape. She doesn't want to splash around too much and frighten them off. She gets pretty wet and cold, but it's nice to see him so cheerful]

*Once he's caught a couple he's willing to go back to the sand castle again, so it's not too bad.*
