Salvage

[aquatic_light]

There's an utter mess scattered over Washed Up Beach today, and a few people who seem to be trying to clean it up. Since the weather in the Nexus is always warm enough to go swimming (except when it isn't) there's also one family already who arrived with a picnic basket and found the beach just isn't suitable for that today. Care to have a look?

(This continues just after this scene. Feel free to talk to anyone there if you want, or just walk up and start poking around. I just ask that no one successfully walk off with any critical parts as there are plans to put that back together. XD )

[The bored teenager barely blinks an eye at Smeagol] Mind being more specific?

[Dee steps in] We're looking for burgers. You've got those, right?

[The teenager nods, switching to a proper "customer service" voice] Plain, cheese, and bacon and cheese. All with your choice of lettuce, tomato, ketchup, and mustard. And turkey or veggie patties if you don't want beef.

*Smeagol is not used to not being stared at.*

We can have lotsss of meat, yessss?

[The teenager's voice doesn't even wobble -- he must be used to the Nexus as well. Or at least had a LOT of customer service experience] You can get a double patty, yeah. And if you want meat, you want the bacon.

[Dee nods] Whatcha think? Double beef patty with bacon and cheese?

[lastest_ringbearer]

*Smeagol nods and licks his lips.*

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee, to the teenager] Okay, so that's one double bacon and cheese -- just the bacon and cheese -- and I'll have a single bacon and cheese with lettuce and ketchup and mustard.

[teenager nods] Be -- you using American dollars? [Dee nods, the teen punches something on the cash register] Seven-forty-seven, please. It'll be out in just a few.

*Smeagol has no idea what dollars are, so he lets Dee get on with it.*

[Dee pays the teenager, who disappears into the back for a bit. A couple of minutes later, he has two cardboard boxes] All right, one double b&c and one single b&c with lettuce.

[Dee, smiling] Thanks! [she takes the boxes and hands Smeagol's over to him]

*He opens the box and devours the food inside.* What to do with the paper?

[dee_lorean81]

[The teenager raises an eyebrow -- well, somebody seemed to like that. He points toward a nearby trash barrel] You can just chuck it in there.

[Dee, carefully taking her burger out of its box] Or you can just give it to me, and I'll throw it all out all together.

[lastest_ringbearer]

*He nods and hands it over, then goes to swim for a bit. Water is more his element than people, certainly.*

[Dee accepts the trash, chucks it, then eats her burger while watching Smeagol head for the water. Once she's finished, she heads over toward him] How is the water? [it's pretty cold in her home reality, but the beach -- well, it's not summer, but it's not bad either]

Water be nice, yesss!

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee giggles and rolls her pants up to her knees] Great! [She shucks her shoes and wades out into the surf. She squeals and bounces back as it laps at her toes -- eep, that was colder than she expected! Darn, Smeagol, you're tough! Or maybe she's just a wimp]

[lastest_ringbearer]

*Smeagol is used to spring water deep in a cave, everything above freezing is good by him.*

[Dee creeps back up to the water's edge, "eeping" again as it washes over her feet. It's not so bad once you get used to it, but she's certainly not diving in for a full swim!]

[lastest_ringbearer]

*He looks over at her curiously.* Not ssswimming, then?

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee shakes her head] Too cold for me. I'm not used to it like you are. Plus I don't have anywhere to put my clothes.

[lastest_ringbearer]

Next time, maybe? It would be nice to have the company.

[dee_lorean81]

[Aw, Dee feels a bit bad] Okay then. We'll have to come back when it's a little warmer out.

[lastest_ringbearer]

It promises, my love?

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee smiles] Yeah, I promise. [she just really hopes the water's a little warmer next time]

[lastest_ringbearer]

Smeagol isss glad.

[dee_lorean81]

I'm glad too. [Dee wiggles her toes in the soft sand at the edge of the surf] And hey -- we could build a sand castle together.

[lastest_ringbearer]

Jussst what be that, my love?

[dee_lorean81]

It's when you make a castle out of sand -- might be quicker to just show you. [she heads for slightly drier ground and starts heaping sand up in a big pile]
