[There is a DeLorean, heavily modified, doing laps in an empty, paved part of the Nexus. One might wonder what the driver is doing -- practicing for a race? Working on their turning? Just burning rubber because they're bored?

And then one might get a little closer -- and see that there IS no driver.

. . .perhaps it might be fairer to say that the car is bored.]

[Marty nods, looking at their hands curiously] Yeah, like a sort of -- ongoing static shock? It's not BAD, it's just. . .like you said, weird.

[Dee turns back into kid form] Yeah, exactly, but hey -- it's the best solution we've got so far!

[palmerthing]

It's definitely better than the alternative, yeah.

[dee_lorean81]

[Marty nods again] Oh hell yeah. And it's over your whole body?

[Dee] Yeah, that should be how it works.

[palmerthing]

Yeah, it's everywhere. Aside from the inside of my mouth, I mean, but that's because I do still need to eat. It's everywhere practical. *A moment of thought.* I should check if it shapeshifts with me at some point.

[dee_lorean81]

[Marty, laughing a bit] Yeah, be kind of overkill if you couldn't eat with the damn thing on. [he nods] Yeah, you probably should.

[Dee, intrigued] Oh, totally. It's supposed to fit around you no matter what shape you're in!

[palmerthing]

The question is whether it can cope with all the shapes in between.

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee, folding her arms] If it's any good it should.

[Alice, amused] Really. . .how much did you pay for it?

[palmerthing]

Almost 200 bucks, I don't have much left. But then I don't exactly need much, either, so . . .

[dee_lorean81]

[Doc, nodding] Yes, it's a lot easier to feed yourself when you can eat just about anything organic and living. And with this, if you do need a job, it'll be easier to get one since -- well, you're no longer an infection risk.

[Dee, laughing] You could look for a job in the mall!

[palmerthing]

Ooh, something to do would be nice. People would quickly learn not to be stupid at me, too.

[dee_lorean81]

[Alice, frowning] I don't know. . .in my personal experience, stupid sticks pretty hard to some people.

[Dee nods] Yeah, the octopus guy hinted that he still deals with plenty of stupid -- it just gets banned more easily than in some places.

[palmerthing]

Yeah, but as far as I can tell he still wasn't a shapeshifter. I can do scary like no one else, I suspect.

[dee_lorean81]

[Marty, smiling] I mean -- you're literally synonymous with one of the biggest horror movies out there. If you couldn't do scary like no one else, it would be weird.

[Dee chuckles] Yeah. Maybe you should see about being a security guard then? Or a bouncer -- I bet you this place has nightclubs.

[palmerthing]

I want to say that I don't quite have the personality for it, but it's more that the old me didn't have the personality for it. This me would probably have a lot of fun being a bouncer, I'm a bit more violent now.

[dee_lorean81]

[Alice, with an amused crossing of her arms] I suppose we should be glad it's only a bit.

[Dee, copying her] Probably, yeah.

[palmerthing]

I'm glad too. Not having to hide is bizarre, but I like it.

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee, grinning] It's the best thing about the Nexus -- you can just be YOU!

[Doc, nodding] It's certainly made all our lives a lot easier. [there's a hiss of steam from under his coat that -- just kinda proves his point]

[palmerthing]

Don't worry, I'll try not to be too scary.

[dee_lorean81]

[Marty] Well, if you're going for a bouncer job, you're gonna have to be pretty scary.

[Dee] Just -- ask what scary level they want and aim for that.

[palmerthing]

*He chuckles.* Sounds like a plan.

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee laughs] Yeah.

[Victor, bouncing Chester lightly] In the meantime, though. . . [he glances over at Alice, and gets a nod] DO you want to hold the baby?

[palmerthing]

*A slightly nervous expression, followed by a nod. Babies are a new thing, but he wants to hold the kid at least once.* Yeah, might as well.

[dee_lorean81]

[Victor nods back and hands Chester over, who -- in the way of babies -- is being very squirmy] Easy, Chester. . .you want to get your arm around him like so, and the other arm here. . .

[Dee, watching] He's doing that thing where's he's trying to escape, isn't he?

[Alice, coming over to help] I'm almost certain he gets that from me.

[palmerthing]

So this is normal, then? Not because there's something weird about me? Sorry, the old me was never around babies much either. *It makes everything that much more worrying when it doesn't have Palmer's experience to fall back on.*

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee] I dunno if it's normal for all babies, but it sure is normal for this baby.

[Alice nodding agreement] Yes, he is a rather wriggly one. . .but once you've got a good hold of him, he should settle down a bit.

[Chester flails an arm as if to try and put the lie to her words]
