[There is a DeLorean, heavily modified, doing laps in an empty, paved part of the Nexus. One might wonder what the driver is doing -- practicing for a race? Working on their turning? Just burning rubber because they're bored?

And then one might get a little closer -- and see that there IS no driver.

. . .perhaps it might be fairer to say that the car is bored.]

[Victor accepts Chester, who grabs onto his sleeve with his little hands, making happy noises] Yes, yes, come to Daddy. . .

[Alice nods] I do too, exhausting as it is.

[Dee] Small children you know don't really mean it.

[palmerthing]

And they can't do much really serious, either. Just tire you out.

[dee_lorean81]

[Alice] Or pull down the curtains. [Chester giggles and tugs on Victor's sleeve] No, no, you're not to do that again!

[Dee] We should probably just shorten the curtains so he can't reach.

[palmerthing]

Baby-proofing everything must be hard. You'll always forget something.

[dee_lorean81]

[Victor, bouncing Chester] Or think "there's no way a baby could get into that," only to be immediately proven wrong. One wonders how long we survived as a species if our little ones are THIS capable of getting into trouble.

[Dee] Well, you guys are pretty good at getting yourselves out of trouble too. Even the small fry.

[palmerthing]

It is pretty wild, though. Most species start with a much better sense of danger.

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee] Mm, true. Most species also start out being able to walk a lot faster too.

[Marty] You guys are making me wonder how the hell humans survived this long.

[palmerthing]

With difficulty, I imagine. And a lot of blind luck. You know a bear wandered into a command center during the Cuban Missile Crisis and almost caused WWIII? I read about this stuff, you know.

[Marty, blinking] I -- must have missed that in history class. A bear did what?

[Dee, incredulous] How the hell did a BEAR get into a COMMAND CENTER?? Why were they building those things in areas with bears?

[palmerthing]

It wandered onto the grounds and everyone panicked about an intruder until it wandered off again. And lots of areas have bears, you know. Especially out-of-the-way places like you'd put a top secret base in.

[dee_lorean81]

[Doc] I assume they initially thought it was a spy, because HOPEFULLY people don't start nuclear wars over random wildlife.

[Dee] Fair, but you think they'd make the damn fences bearproof.

[Marty] I think that's one of those things that is easier said than done, Dee.

[palmerthing]

Yeah, bearproofing is definitely a rather hard task. *Palmer chuckles.* I doubt I'd know how to do it.

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee, frowning] There must be ways. I mean, people have lived with bears for ages.

[Marty] Also died to bears for ages. Bears are big and probably don't like being kept out of places.

[Victor, as Chester entertains himself with his sleeve] Tall enough fence?

[Alice] I think at least some bears are pretty good at climbing.

[palmerthing]

Yeah, bears are great climbers. More with trees than fences, though.

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee, looking over at Victor] Wonder if they're as good at you at climbing trees then.

[Marty] We'd better hope not, because there'd be no WAY to stop a bear getting inside anywhere if there was a tree nearby.

[palmerthing]

I should learn to be a bear at some point, they seem useful.

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee, grinning] Think anybody who doesn't want a bear around would disagree.

[Alice] Not loudly, though, because there's a bear around.

[palmerthing]

Another useful thing about being a bear!

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee laughs] Yeah, there's not much that wants to mess with a bear. Except maybe another bear.

[Marty] And we're pretty sure you could take another bear.

[palmerthing]

I'm definitely smarter than most bears, for a start.

[dee_lorean81]

[Marty, grinning] Smarter than the average bear?

[Dee, groaning] Marty!

[Marty, snickering] He walked right into it!

That was indeed the reference in my head :D

[palmerthing]

I'll take Yogi Bear over Yogi Berra.

[Dee, puzzled] Yogi Berra?

[Marty] He played baseball back in -- think it was late forties through mid-sixties? Anyway, he was a catcher who turned coach, and he had a habit of saying stuff like "it's deja-vu all over again" and "you can observe a lot by watching." Became pretty well known for it, in fact -- they call stuff like that "Yogi-isms" now.

[Victor, surprised] You know a lot about this.

[Marty, shrugs] I like baseball.

[palmerthing]

I honestly don't know if the guy was really an idiot or just playing it on TV, but I remember the 'deja-vu all over again' one. Also 'nobody goes there, it's too crowded,' 'a nickel ain't worth a dime anymore' and 'go to people's funerals or they won't come to yours.'

[dee_lorean81]

[Alice, chuckling] I mean -- if saying that sort of thing kept you famous and in the public eye, wouldn't you keep doing it?

[Marty, holding up a hand] I do wanna point out he was actually a damn good baseball player. I mean, he made All-Star for 15 seasons. And he was the catcher for Don Larsen's no-hit perfect game in the 1956 World series.

[Dee] Guy just couldn't resist maling a prop, huh?

[Marty] Well, he quit school after eighth grade, so. . .
