Looking For A Lost Friend

Have a confused Marty wandering around the general question area, looking like he's searching for something -- or, rather, someone. "Where the hell -- okay, you know what? Place is for questions -- anybody seen Victor? He said he was going to 'clear his head' about an hour ago, and we thought he'd be back by now."

[For those curious, Victor does happen to be in the Nexus -- passed out on a rather large couch that Marty just hasn't come across yet, thanks to the weird way space and directions work in this place. Maybe it thought he needed the sleep]

*Palmer happens to overhear the question and wanders up to him.* Want me to help look? He must be around here somewhere.

[museicalmarty]

Yeah, sure, thanks. How you doing? Doc said the exam went well?

[palmerthing]

Yeah, it was cool. I've been reading the books he got me, they're very interesting.

[museicalmarty]

Heh, good -- sounds like you're keeping busy. Anything particularly cool you've learned?

[palmerthing]

Somewhere in the multiverse is a race of telepathic mushrooms, that was certainly odd.

[museicalmarty]

Ooookay. . .you gotta wonder how THAT happened.

[palmerthing]

I'm guessing bored wizards were involved.

[museicalmarty]

Maybe. . .but then again, you're kind of a sentient virus or something, and no bored wizards made you. [pause] We think.

[palmerthing]

Hmm, point. I'm not sure why a telepathic mushroom would evolve naturally, though.

[museicalmarty]

Neither am I, but honestly? I've learned not to question this stuff too closely. It makes your brain break if you think about it too hard.

[palmerthing]

I bet it does. Good thing I don't have one. *He laughs briefly at his own bad joke, then subsides.* I'm just glad that I haven't gone past the edge of monstrosity all the way into complete nonsense. It wouldn't have taken much more.

[museicalmarty]

On the other hand, you could kinda consider your whole body your brain, couldn't ya? Given how you work?

[he grimaces a little at that] We're all glad of that.

[palmerthing]

I suppose so. Still, it's a bit harder to break when you're already as strange as I am.

[museicalmarty]

Yeah, fair enough. Being pretty weird yourself makes it easier to take the weird stuff. I bet you that I'm doing better with the Nexus than any version of me who just traveled through time.

[palmerthing]

Heh, probably. I know that I'm not that interested by most of the strange things here. *A wry look.* Some of the people and animals, but not the things. Trying to ignore them too, mind.

[museicalmarty]

Right, yeah. . .how's it going, staying here? You run into anybody else interesting?

[palmerthing]

Oh, it's alright. I'm trying to keep to myself, for obvious reasons, but other than that it's pretty interesting.

[museicalmarty]

Well, that's good. Glad you're settling in well. [looking around] Seriously, where the hell did Victor wander off to?

[palmerthing]

Want me to go look properly? I think I can do it, I know his scent and everything. Which is weird, let me tell you.

[museicalmarty]

[Marty blinks] Well, uh, if you can do that. . .do you know that because it's a Thing, uh, thing, or is that some sort of weird holdover from the dog?

[palmerthing]

The dog and probably a lot of other creatures from God-knows-where. The Thing itself doesn't have much skill aside from what's stolen.

[museicalmarty]

Right. . .sorry, it's just -- hard to wrap my head around the fact that the Thing is basically just a kind of disease. Like how movie-me has a hard time thinking fourth-dimensionally.

[palmerthing]

Most people would have a problem with thinking fourth-dimensionally.

Alright, give me a moment. *He closes his eyes and focuses. The air smells/tastes more familiar in this direction . . .*

[museicalmarty]

Yeah, but I'm best friends with the creator of freaking time travel, so you'd think I'd pick it up eventually. Either of me.

[The smell will eventually lead Palmer, and Marty trailing behind him, to an oversized couch in an out-of-the-way spot. And on that couch is a distinctly asleep (and slightly snoring) Victor Van Dort, sprawled out in a way that suggests he didn't exactly MEAN to fall asleep]

[palmerthing]

*Palmer chuckles when he spots the sleeping man, taking the nearest other couch.* You should probably be the one to wake him up, yeah? For obvious reasons. *He'd be unhappy if he infected anyone, and waking someone up tends to require shaking them at least a bit.*
