[There is a DeLorean, heavily modified, doing laps in an empty, paved part of the Nexus. One might wonder what the driver is doing -- practicing for a race? Working on their turning? Just burning rubber because they're bored?

And then one might get a little closer -- and see that there IS no driver.

. . .perhaps it might be fairer to say that the car is bored.]

[Marty, grimacing] That's uh, pretty much how the movie version went, yeah.

[Dee, nodding] And instead you got to escape here and get a thing that lets you actually touch people and make a go at -- well. Not a NORMAL life, but a life!

[palmerthing]

*A chuckle.* Alright, point. Although the real Palmer wasn't so lucky.

[Dee] No, he wasn't, but -- there's not really anything you can do about that now.

[Marty] Other than hope an uninfected one doesn't show up here from another universe, because that would be awkward.

[palmerthing]

That would be incredibly awkward. *A wince.* Not sure what I'd do about that, honestly.

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee] Run and hide so you didn't have to deal with it?

[palmerthing]

I mean . . . yeah, probably. It would be a fairly reasonable response.

[dee_lorean81]

[Marty] Yeah -- and I get the feeling it might be original Palmer's response too, because meeting yourself, or something that looks that much like you? Weird.

[Dee] I mean, the movies make it pretty clear encountering yourself through time travel is a pretty decent shock to the system, and that's seeing yourself at a different age and all. Exact copy? Very weird.

[palmerthing]

If he saw me, yeah. Especially since we were in a situation where the humans didn't know if they could trust themselves, much less a lookalike. Actually a lookalike would probably be extra terrifying . . .

[dee_lorean81]

[Alice] I would think so, yes -- you'd immediately wonder if you were about to be disintegrated or absorbed or just plain murdered, I bet.

[Dee] Cheery.

[Marty] It is a world that matches a pretty well-known horror movie. Horror's gonna happen.

[palmerthing]

I wonder how the story will end without me . . . but luckily that's not my problem.

[dee_lorean81]

[Marty] I'm guessing pretty messily. I mean, tensions were ALREADY running super high, and you just disappearing? Oh, I bet that got a lot of people pretty scared.

[Dee] Think it's gonna be another case of everybody dead except two guys sitting in the snow waiting to freeze?

[Marty] Maybe. Or maybe they're just gonna keep looking for that missing Thing. . .

[palmerthing]

*Palmer snorts.* Good fuckin' luck to them, then.

[dee_lorean81]

[Dee] Well, we do gotta account for the possibility that one of them could find the same door you did.

[palmerthing]

In which case this place dislikes violence *and* I have a force field up now, so with any luck I'll be okay. *He still looks a bit upset by the idea, but that's probably understandable.*

[Dee] Two things in your favor, yeah!

[Marty] Plus this place is pretty big -- no guarantee they'll even find you in here.

[palmerthing]

How long might they keep searching, though?

[dee_lorean81]

[Marty] . . .okay, that one I can't tell you. Guess it depends on how determined they are? I mean, MacCready probably wouldn't stop until someone lets him know that you're not actually a threat anymore. [And even then. . .]

[Dee] On the other hand. . .I mean, you weren't the only infected one, right? What was going on when you came through the door?

[palmerthing]

If then. Mac was pretty damn single-minded.

What? Uh, the whole mess with Norristhing just ended. So as far as I know it's me and probably Blair. And whatever isn't actually dead of the others, there's bound to be something. Probably nothing sapient at the moment, but hey.

[dee_lorean81]

[Marty] Yeah, the movie made that pretty clear, I gotta admit.

[Dee] Okay then -- so what happens if Blair comes through the door?

[Victor] We pray that Blair is like Palmer here and more interested in peace and quiet?

[palmerthing]

And I have no idea what Blairthing wanted, so . . . *He shrugs.* Pray is right.

[dee_lorean81]

[Alice] Well, so far there's no sign of anyone following you here. . .which isn't PROOF no one has, of course, but still.

[Dee] We'll take what we can get!

[palmerthing]

It's something at least. So yeah, I'll take it.

[dee_lorean81]

[Victor] Sometimes that's all you can do. Though it seems to have worked out for you well so far.

[Dee] Oh, definitely. You've got a life here now! That's already better than you got back in your old reality.

[palmerthing]

A lot better, yeah. I still have to wear a human face most of the time, but I like being Palmer, so that's okay.

[dee_lorean81]

[Marty] Good, though. . .if you need to relax the human form a bit around us, I think that's okay. We know you now.

[Alice, looking at Chester] Though maybe not right in front of the baby yet. He's a bit young to understand.

[Dee] Yeah, that would probably set off some screaming.
