[ticking off on her fingers] Get introduced to your new daughter; have her turn into your time machine in front of you; faint because it's a little much to take; get woken up by panicky daughter and dude helping her maybe a couple of minutes later. He managed to come to grips with it okay after that.

Sounds like normal fainting to me. Who helped you?

Well, it was a short faint, anyway. . . Well, there were a couple of people who came around to help when I first came here, but the guy who actually helped me find Dad was Clark Kent -- he's a nice guy. A superhero in his own world!

How is that different from a regular hero?

In his case, having heat vision, ice breath, super speed, super strength, and being an alien from another planet.

Overkill, in other words. How delightful. *He sounds a bit skeptical.* No megalomania at all, then?

Hey, it's not really his fault -- all of his species gets that deal when they're on earth, apparently. Something to do with yellow sunlight. . . And not really? He's a pretty nice guy normally, but I've heard that he can tend that way when he's on "red kryptonite," which is something from his home world that -- I guess amplifies your worse qualities? [shrugs]

*This, to him, is like being told that a kingdom's laws are controlled not by the ruler's decrees but by their tone of voice.* It just has to be yellow? Lots of stars are yellow. That Law makes no sense.

Seems like you would have to be very careful allowing his kind on Earth.

[she shrugs again] That's how it works on his world. I don't know why -- probably some complicated psudeo-science about light waves and the color spectrum -- but it does.

[bites lip] Thaaaat's -- not really an issue. The whole reason he's on Earth is because his home planet, Krypton, ended up destroyed, and he was sent off in a rocket by his bio-parents to save him. There's a few other survivors, but. . .

Pseudoscience, not real science?

So only a minor problem, then. I'd like to meet him.

Eh, I guess I shouldn't say that -- it's real science in his world. It's just -- in our world, he's from comic books, and they're not great with the science, so. . .

So to speak -- he's tussled with nasty Kryptonians before, I know that much. But he's pretty much always won, so there's that. He's married with kids now, though -- keeping busy in his reality, so he doesn't show up here much anymore. Which -- we're all glad he's happy, but -- still, it's sad to lose touch.

Comic books? It doesn't sound comical. *The magazines with drawings in them have probably been invented in his world, but they've never made it as far as him. Why would they?*

It generally is a shame, yes.

Oh, right, your world might not have those yet -- definitely not the modern versions! "Comic" books don't have to be funny -- they're basically heavily illustrated stories. They can be adventure, action, science fiction. . .but the most popular genre these days is super heroes. Like Clark -- he's Superman. There's also Batman, Wonder Woman, Captain America, Iron Man. . .lots of 'em.

Yeah. . .at least my family's still got each other.

And I don't suppose it's easy to read at the bottom of a well. [suddenly amused] Though didn't we start talking because I was wondering what you were reading?

It is. I'm really glad Dad didn't freak out more about me being -- well, me. Though probably already having a lot of experience with weird stuff helped there.

Yeah, Marty was willing to donate a few to the cause -- that's "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?" It's about Superman going up against more "edgy" heroes. Apparently a classic.

I can think of a good few things, but then truth is a lot more dangerous where I come from. Mysteries are sparks, the truth the fire.
