New(ish) Father Blues

Victor Brown (formerly Van Dort) looks a bit harried when he enters the Nexus -- or, perhaps more accurately, like he really needs a vacation. And about a full day's worth of sleep. He heads to a nearby plush sofa (apparently the place noted the darker-than-usual circles under his eyes and felt sorry for him) and collapses on it with a sigh. "Oh dear. . .does anyone have any tips on how to handle tantrums?" he asks, looking around with a grimace. "Because Chester. . .well, he's started getting grabby, and if you take whatever he's grabbed away from him, he just -- how do babies cry so loud?"

It is nice to just have a moment to myself, honestly. Being a father is amazing, but. . . [he sighs, running a ghostly hand through his ghostly hair, however that works] It has its -- Moments.

I can only imagine. Like we said at the start of this whole thing, babies are fucking loud.

They really are! You don't expect that sort of -- of screaming to come out of someone so small! And it's so hard to g-get them to calm down! Sometimes I feel like screaming myself!

[palmerthing]

I would give you a pat on the back but I don't think it would work out that great. *He smiles slightly.* Ghost and all, you know.

Heh, yes, but the thought is appreciated. [he floats back and forth for a moment] The meltdowns don't happen too often, at least. It's generally when he's grabbed something he shouldn't have, and we have to get it away from him. Before, you know, it ends up in his mouth or whatnot.

Yeah, babies don't understand that there are things too dangerous for them, or that other people were using, or that they might break.

I know, I know. . .and he's just too young right now to really understand, so. . . I know he'll grow out of it, but. . . [he presses a hand against his forehead] It's just -- tough.

[palmerthing]

It sounds tough, man. At least you can come here to relax?

[deadgirlslikeme]

That's true. This place does provide a nice break from the house sometimes. and it's familiar too. We've all been coming here for quite some time.

[palmerthing]

It's not the worst place to live, either.

[deadgirlslikeme]

It does seem to provide for those who want to stay. I'm pretty sure a house by a lake more or less popped into existence for someone else we know who's staying here.

Sweet. I don't really need a house except to keep stuff in, maybe have a little garden or some shit like that, but the option to get one free is nice.

[deadgirlslikeme]

I hear there's supposed to be an apartment block too. . .but given what you are, a house on your own might be better. A garden certainly sounds nice.

[palmerthing]

Yeah, man. Somewhere remote if possible. Somewhere I can just hide away and not bother people too much. Me and a garden and any people I can find who are immune.

There must be something like that out here. The Nexus is a meeting place of all worlds, after all. If it can have a giant shopping mall, it can also have some quiet spots far away from anyone else. Just a matter of finding them.

[palmerthing]

I'll have to do that, then. If I find one then I'll tell you where to find it, yeah?

Well, the nice thing about the Nexus is, if you just start walking with a destination in mind, you should be able to find it! So hopefully I wouldn't even need directions -- you'd just have to let me know you have a house.

Oh hey, sweet. I'll do that, then.

Yes -- for all the little tricks it can play, it's really quite nice to people. I -- I honestly owe it a lot.

I already owe it a lot. Staying home sounds like it would have ended very badly for everyone.

Yes, the movie more or less proved that. I wonder how it would have played out if you'd gone missing -- when did you enter the Nexus? What was happening in your world?

Norris had a heart attack. Defibrillating him had . . . interesting results.

[Victor winces] Oh dear. . .and I think that occurred not long before the infamous blood test and movie!you -- well. . .

[palmerthing]

So they figured something out, huh? *For a moment his eyes are cold, dead. Monster eyes. Then he blinks it away.* I hope that me did some damage. Which is kind of a fucked up hope, but I wouldn't want to just die. Even if they were my friends, or the old me's friends, or whatever. Ah hell, it's a mess.
